FOUNDATION FUNDING EXPANDS ACROSS LANARK COUNTY
SUMMER ROBOTICS PROGRAM GOES COUNTY-WIDE
In 2023, the Foundation funded a new county-wide summer robotics program. Thanks to the leadership of the Mississippi Mills Library and the success of their robotics program, all library systems in Lanark were on board! Robotics programs were offered for Lanark youth across all five library systems in the county. Youth have the opportunity to participate in a summer robotics program at their very own local library and will gain comfort learning with others while building their knowledge and skills in STEM.

Learning by doing and encouragement to think 'outside the box' - that is what the program brings to the community.
Hands-on experience with their own supplies and a tutor to answer questions and encourage adventures in robotics and coding have these programs full and people asking for more.
Participants are challenged to build a 'fastest' robot, a most 'precise' robot where quality wins out over speed, learn of gear ratios, have their robots compete mazes.
Participants could participate in the IEEE Ottawa Robotics Competition Da Vinci challenge - functionality and beauty of the work are both important.
The Lego Robotics workshops are very popular - registration full and feedback very positive.
The opportunity to learn the latest at the local library!
The 'sky is the limit' (first recorded circa 1920) no longer . . .

2020 - AN EXTRAORDINARY YEAR FOR ALL
In 2020, the outbreak of Covid-19 took over much of daily lives and activities. In light of this, the Foundation was able to identify only one program to support. With the Foundation matching funding provided by the Federal Government of Canada, a STEM Robotics and Coding program was launched at the Mississippi Mills Library (Almonte Branch) in November.
During these challenging times, the Foundation sought other ways to support the community and decided to give significant donations to the Lanark County Food Bank and Lanark Interval House - food and health and safety support learning.
